Housing & Transportation

Transportation

L.A. trafficThe Greater Los Angeles area is very large with many smaller cities and towns, which is why going anywhere outside of your neighborhood might seem intimidating. But don't worry! There are several ways to get around the Los Angeles area if you don’t have a car, or if you prefer not to drive. Below are some alternative transportation options.

Public Transportation

GoPass : No car or don't feel like driving...no problem! Mt. SAC students have access to 14 public transit systems for no additional cost! Once your schools fees are paid, you can access these transit systems with your student ID card. You can use the transit systems an unlimited amount of times for school, business, personal life, or pleasure. For more information, including how to activate your GoPass, visit the Mt. SAC GoPass website.

Carpool

Carpooling is a great option for anyone, including students. Carpooling means multiple people riding in one personal vehicle. It's a great way to reduce the stresses of transportation, reduce traffic, reduce air pollutants, and have a travel companion. You will very likely find a network of friends who can lend you a ride when possible, or you can lend someone else a ride if you have a vehicle. Carpooling is a great way to share and exchange resources.

Ridesharing (Uber, Lyft, etc.) & Taxi Services

Ridesharing services provide peer-to-peer car services to accommodate many of your traveling needs. Ridesharing may be an option if you prefer not to or cannot take the public transit system. There are many ridersharing services, though Uber and Lyft are the most popular.

Taxi services are similar, but slightly different. While ridersharing involves peer-to-peer services, taxi providers have professional drivers, services, and expectations. There are many taxi services in the Los Angeles area, which have websites and even apps for your smartphones or smart devices.

Driving to Campus and Parking

Student who have cars may elect to drive to campus. The campus has many parking lots and spaces. However, be very careful because parking lots and spaces have certain rules and requirements. Some parking lots or spaces are reserved for College employees while others are reserved for students with seasonal passes or day passes. For a more detailed explanation of student parking options, visit the Mt. SAC parking website. For parking lot locations, see the interactive Mt. SAC campus map.
