Transfer Options

If you wish to transfer your ELEC or CNET courses to a University to obtain a 4 year degree, and have questions, you have come to the right place!

    • 1Make an appointment with a Counselor

You can set up appointments with the Counseling Department by calling (909) 274-4380 or through your Mt. SAC portal underneath the Student Success tab. You may contact Eddie Lee in the counseling department for more specific counseling in Electronics or Computer Networking Technology.

    • 2Visit Assist

Visit Assist, the official California website that gives information on which classes from Mt. SAC will transfer to specific California schools.  Here you can select the school you wish to transfer to and see which of our classes can be transferred as Major requirements to count towards specific courses at those schools. This is not to say that if a class does not show up on that list, that it is not possible for it to transfer. Specifically for private universities and out of state schools, you may have to do the leg work yourself by filling out petition forms. This is done after you have already made the transfer.

    • 3Enroll in Transferrable Courses

For each course in the Mt. SAC course catalog, it will say "CSU" at the top of the course description if it can be transferred to a CSU system school. If it says "CSU," this guarantees that at a minimum it can be transferred as elective credit. However, to know if it can be transferred as a required course for credit in your major, visit Assist.

For the Electronics program the following classes are CSU Transferrable:

      • ELEC 50A
      • ELEC 50B
      • ELEC 11
      • ELEC 51
      • ELEC 56
      • ELEC 61
      • ELEC 54A
      • ELEC 54 B
      • ELEC 74
    • 4Cal Poly Pomona Articulation

The current agreement between Cal Poly Pomona's Electronic Systems Engineering Technology and our department's Electronics program can be seen in the following picture.

The 6 courses within the ELEC program that transfer to their program are: ELEC 50A, ELEC 50B, ELEC 56, ELEC 51, ELEC61, ELEC 54B. The reason all of our ELEC courses do not transfer is because many of our courses, such as our ELEC 74, 53 and 55 would be considered upper division on their campus. Although the curriculum is similar, 4 year universities by default do not transfer in junior or senior level classes from a community college (unless petitioned). It would be advantageous to students however, if they have room in their schedule to take these other courses, as it will help immensely in their understanding when taking the similar upper division courses at Cal Poly.

It is also important to note that there are a few support courses that should be taken ahead of your transfer that will transfer to Cal Poly's program. These include: CISP 31 and CISP 31 lab, Phys 2AG, Phys 2BG, and any pre-requisites for Math 180 (Calculus 1). We do not recommend at this time to take Math 180 on Mt. SAC's campus, as it will not fulfill the required "Technical Calculus 1" or "Technical Calculus 2" courses required by Cal Poly's Electronic Systems Engineering Technology program. If however you have credit for Math 180 and 181, they will count this towards their "Technical Calculus 1" course, and Math 280 and 290 will count towards "Technical Calculus 2".

Other ELEC courses may to be petitioned for elective credit but is up to the university whether it will be accepted.  For a complete list of classes at Mt. SAC that will count towards specific classes at another school, you will need to visit Assist.

    • 6Mt. SAC Transfer Services

Mt. SAC's Transfer Services offers valuable information on transferring. Additionally, students may want to view the following schools that offer similar Engineering Technology programs that many of our classes transfer over as required core courses:

Please be aware that the Electronics classes at Mt. SAC are not transferable to traditional Electrical Engineering courses. The reason being is that our classes are not Calculus based, but rather Algebra based. However, our courses are VERY beneficial for students who wish to seek Electrical Engineering degrees in that they will give you a very solid foundation on which to work from. We have had many Electronics students go on to complete an Electrical Engineering degree from a university, and they will tell you that our courses have helped immensely.

For a more comprehensive breakdown of what Engineering Technology is, as opposed to traditional engineering, please visit Engineering Breakdown.
