Making Webpages Accessible

In October of 2015, the college launched a redesigned website with newly added accessible features to help ensure the college website is accessible to all individuals.

What does it mean for a website to be Accessible?

• Website accessibility is actively designing, developing, and creating content in such a way that it does not hinder any person from interacting with the website.—Web Access Initiative (WAI)
• A website is accessible when everyone, regardless of ability or disability, can use it and get the information they need.

Creating an Accessible Webpage

When creating an accessible webpage make sure to check all the items (if applicable) on the following list for accessibility compliance:

When your content is complete, be sure to scan your page to make sure it is accessible.

    To scan a specific page using a browser (e.g., Google Chrome or Safari) :

    1. Install the WAVE extension on your browser
    2. Navigate to your page URL
    3. Click the WAVE  icon in your browser

    If you are a designated Mt. SAC webpage editor, you can check your pages for accessibility by following these steps:

    1. Navigate to your page within OmniUpdate
    2. Click the Light Bulb to check out the page
    3. Click the Page Check button
    4. Click the Accessibility button
