New Admission Procedures
Purpose
To promote diversity, equity, and inclusion of the student population, Nursing Faculty approved to use a blended combination of random selection and a multicriteria screening process as the selection method to accept nursing students.
Effective Date
Starting the term of the admission of the Spring 2023 cohort.
Procedures
- All applicants who completed the Human Anatomy, Human Physiology, Microbiology, and English 1A with a GPA of 2.5 or better can apply. Human Anatomy, Human Physiology, and Microbiology with a grade less than a "C" (2.0) for each course and having more than one repetition of any one of the science courses are not eligible to apply. Letter grades of C minus (C-) or below cannot be accepted towards the prerequisite requirements.
- Use the multicriteria screening process to determine each applicant's merit points.
- Establish Applicants Pool. Top scoring applicants will bypass the lottery (number will vary with each application pool).
- Establish Lottery Pool. Two methods to place applicants into the Lottery Pool:
- Determine a cut score from the multicriteria screening process. For example, if 70% is the cut score, all applicants who meet 70% of the cut score will be placed in the Lottery Pool. Or
- Select the top 250 applicants, and place them in the Lottery Pool
- Randomly select 150 to180 students from the Lottery Pool.
- Have these 150 to180 students take the California Community Colleges Chancellor's office required admission/readiness exam.
- Passing admission/readiness exam scores are valid for one year. Applicants who failed the required admission/readiness exam will be placed in a remediation program. Applicants are allowed to retake the admission/readiness exam after completion of the remediation program.
- Applicants who passed the required admission/readiness exam will be advanced to the Counseling Department for transcript verification.
- Applicants who do not complete the Counseling Department transcript verification process will be removed from the application list.
- The merit points obtained from the admission/readiness exam will be added to the points of the multicriteria screening process as the final points.
- 60 students will be admitted Fall and Spring, and all others will be considered as alternates.
