Prospective Family
Thank you for considering the Mt. San Antonio College Child Development Center and Laboratory School. The Child Development Center is a nationally accredited facility (NAEYC) where Mt. SAC students, staff, and members of the surrounding communities may apply for early care and educational services. The Child Development Center provides a high quality, evidence based, and developmentally appropriate program to enhance children’s educational, emotional, physical, and social development needs. Research shows that high-quality early education provides the foundation that truly prepares children for school success and a life-long love of learning.
The Center serves children between the ages of 3 months to 5 years old. Once enrolled in the program, we practice an Open Door Policy. We warmly welcome and invite parents to participate in their child’s classroom by volunteering or simply observing. It is our intention to work closely with every family and attempt to meet the educational needs of each child. Children attend a minimum of 20 hours per week, except those children in the infant program who are younger than 4 months of age who may require a more individualized schedule.

- Classroom Ratios
Teacher to Child Ratio
Infant/Toddler SectionThe Infant ratio of qualified adult to child is 1:3, meaning 1 Teacher to every 3 Infants. The Young Toddler classroom ratio is 1:4 and the Older Toddler classroom is 1:5. The Child Development Center, as a CDE contractor, may also apply Title 5 ratios and exemptions where applicable.
Preschool sectionThe preschool ratio of qualified adult to child ratio is 1:8, meaning 1 teacher to every 8 preschoolers. Activities outside of the Center i.e. field trips, require greater adult to child supervision. In an effort to maintain the same level of safety, we increase our adult-child ratios by adding teacher aides and parent volunteers.
If a child’s challenging behavior requires a 1 to 1 ratio with teachers or otherwise significantly disrupts the program/classroom, the Center reserves the right to contact the parent to intervene and/or assist staff.
