LA County Winter Shelters 2020-2021

The LAHSA (Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority) Winter Shelter Program is scheduled to operate from October 1, 2020 to October 31, 2021. Please find more information about eligibility, what to expect at a winter shelter and how to access a winter shelter here.  

College Success Initiative - Jovenes, Inc.

Jovenes Inc. in partnership with Mt. San Antonio College offers temporary and long-term housing and supportive services to students experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity. Jovenes is able to address student homelessness while providing Mt. SAC students the necessary housing resources to help them succeed in school.

Types of services:

Services will vary based on the needs of each individual– some requiring ongoing wrap-around support, others requiring one time time rental assistance. Services can fall into any of the three categories below:

  • Housing Identification and Emergency Placement
  • Rent and Move‐In Assistance
  • Ongoing Rental Assistance, Case Management, and Supportive Services                                                               

How to get connected with services:

Complete an assistance application and a Basic Needs staff member will outreach to you as soon as possible to connect you with services.

College Peer Navigator at Mt. SAC

The College Peer Navigator's (CPN) role is to support college students of any age, attending Mt. San Antonio College, who are currently experiencing homelessness, or those who are at risk of experiencing homelessness. 

The CPN will work with students to:

  • Assess their situation
  • Provide partnership towards problem solving possible resolutions of their situation
  • offer any resources or connections that could help

The CPN can also help connect eligible students to the greater LAHSA Coordinated Entry System (see below for more information).

LA County Coordinated Entry System (CES) 

For people experiencing homelessness in LA County, The Coordinated Entry System (CES) Assessments maximizes the efficiency and effectiveness of resources. There are three (3) CES populations and each have specific requirements:
Adults: Must be an individual over the age of 25 and experiencing homelessness in LA County
Youth: Must be between the ages of 16-24 and experiencing homelessness or housing instability in LA County
Families: Household with minor child and experiencing homelessness or housing instability in LA County.

The following are local CES Access Points (Offices that will conduct appropriate assessments and provide available resources). Please call to set up an appointment or find out about current drop-in hours if you are unable to meet with our College Peer Navigator at Mt. SAC.

San Bernardino County's Community Resource Hub

Any Mt. SAC student experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity within San Bernardino County can dial 211 from any telephone or visit United Way's 211 Website for housing resources. 211 San Bernardino County is the central source for providing free and confidential information and referrals for all health and human services in San Bernardino County including housing referrals.
