Asian Pacific American Heritage Month
WHAT IS APAHM?
Asian Pacific American Heritage Month was signed into public law on October 23, 1992. While the statute recognizes the earliest immigration of Japanese American settlers and the contributions of Chinese "pioneers" who helped to complete the transcontinental railroad, it is also to recognize the "history, concerns, contributions, and achievements of Asian American and Pacific Islanders".
At a time when our VOICES need to be HEARD and our STORIES need to be SHARED, the Arise Program is collaborating with the Mt. SAC Communication Department to host an inaurgual Storytelling Speech Contest. All enrolled Mt. SAC students are welcomed to submit a short speech answering an APAHM prompt. The top six (6) finalists will then perfom their speeches to be judged live at the APAHM 2024 Celebration on Thursday, May 16, 2024.
