In American Language (AmLa) classes, you can earn college credit as an English Language Learner. Often, international students, ESL graduates, and English Language Learners do well in our programs and beyond. Take the classes you need OR earn an AmLa Certificate (or two or three)!

Author's Visit
AmLa and the Equity Center collaborated to host award-winning author Reyna Grande during Mt. SAC's FirstGen Week. Grande discussed her experience as an undocumented English learner and the success of her memoirs The Distance Between Us and A Dream Called Home.
Active Learning
American Language (AmLa) classes encourage pair work, small group activities, and team work in classes. These active learning strategies ensure AmLa students practice listening, speaking, reading, writing, and critical thinking while having fun in the learning process.
Targeted Feedback
American Language faculty provide students with individualized, actionable, meaningful feedback to maximize students' learning. AmLa students also participate in peer review activities to develop an awareness of other perspectives.
