Student Testimonials
"Becoming a college tutor is a really good experience. At first there were some challenges with getting the hang of things. When you first meet the children they are a little hard to manage. It took me about a week and a half to two weeks for the children to warm up to me. This was a lot quicker then I thought, most of the children just want a role model to look up to and simple have a conversation with. I have bonded with most to all of the children I work with. It has never been a boring day at work, and I truly enjoy this job! I have learned and adopted many techniques to keep them on task. I am also required to make a lesson plans and a learning curriculum. I feel like this has been a really insightful experience into this line of work. All this has been a great segway into my future career of becoming a teacher. I would like to thank TPI and Veronica for helping me with the process of getting this job"!

"The TPI center is a place that I could spend some relaxation time in during the internal battles I was facing. The people there are so kind and helpful. They really do care for helping you and their positivity and warm greetings were always one of my favorites parts of my day when attending MT. SAC. I was able to take the CBEST through them and get reimbursed after I passed it. I was able to volunteer a lot more with them than I would have without them. Veronica Baeza was such a tremendous help with answering all of my questions all of the time. Folks, trust me this place is great. Also, they let you use the computers and print for free. Also, they have a microwave… that I actually never used haha, but still cool"!

"I’ve always wanted to connect with other future teachers and TPI was a great way to do that. Not only do we have a quiet and cozy room to study, TPI has a wonderful staff to answer all your immediate questions. TPI offers workshops for the CBEST and CSET exams that if you attend and pass the test, TPI would reimburse your costs. What a great deal!! Not only that, they offer a lending book library and early registration when you’re in the program. My favorite part of the program was to have a quiet study room and I found that in the TPI room itself. Sometimes, one needs a quiet and cozy room to study, relax, and just take a breather. Overall, I have nothing but positive vibes for TPI. It was one of the best programs I’ve ever been involved in. If you are thinking about becoming a teacher, TPI is for you".

"For me, Teacher Prep Institute was a second home. I really felt comfortable being myself and exploring my career goals. TPI allowed me to become a strong individual and become confident in my studies. TPI was my support system through my journey at Mt. San Antonio College. I was able to focus on school and not worry about finances, because TPI supplied free book rentals, computers, and printing. I was able to become an ambassador and speak for the program at Mt. Sac and various college fairs. TPI helped me build lasting friendships with people who appreciate and understands my goals. Overall, TPI gave me the tools I needed to become a better student and helped me transfer to a four year university".

"After graduating from UCLA with a degree in psychology, I began working with children in a school setting. It didn't take long to realize that my heart was in the field of education. I chose to attend Mt. SAC for the sole purpose of joining the Teacher Preparation Institute because I knew that being a part of this program would be valuable, and it proved to be the best decision I have made! TPI provided the resources and guidance I needed to take huge leaps forward. After being in TPI for one year, I am now simultaneously substitute teaching full-time in elementary schools, applying to joint master's degree/credential programs, tutoring students after school, taking education classes at Mt. SAC, volunteering in classrooms, and volunteering in Girl Scouts to inspire young girls to be confident leaders! Recently, a school principal has entrusted me with a long-term substitute teaching position in which I will be the acting teacher -- with the help from a team of experienced teachers, I'm now designing lesson plans, grading papers, discussing student progress with parents, and getting to know my enthusiastic first graders. I LOVE EVERY MOMENT! Each day brings more challenges, more laughs, more learning opportunities, and more hugs. The extent of my happiness as a member of the school environment is indescribable! I have found my niche as a future teacher, and I owe much of my success to the Teacher Preparation Institute at Mt. SAC".

"I would like to thank the Teacher Preparation Institute for their constant support during my academic career at Mt. San Antonio College. The TPI team, especially Dr. Henkins, Mr. Randy Wilson, Mrs. Veronica Baeza, who helped me finish two A.A. degrees in two years with a 3.95 GPA. They have also helped me transfer successfully to the Liberal Studies program at Cal Poly Pomona".
