Jeffrey Wakefield

My name is Jeff Wakefield.  I started teaching math in 1996, at Cal State Long Beach.  I also taught a few years at Cypress College prior to arriving at Mt. SAC in 2000.  I earned my bachelor’s degree at UCLA, and my master’s degree at Cal State Long Beach.  I am married, with a daughter and a son.  My activities include baseball, basketball, working on my house, and serving at my church.  I enjoy teaching because I like seeing people learn, as the understanding of mathematics better equips you to solve problems in the real world.

I am so excited that you have decided to take Survey of College Mathematics or Calculus and Analytic Geometry I with Support ! Your success is important to me, so to help prepare you for the next part of your educational journey, I would like to share some information with you about my courses and classroom environments.

      • Math 100 Fall 2024

        Online Class Search:
        ** This class will display a Building/Room number and a Meeting Time in the online class search, to indicate an in-person, on-campus class.


        Prerequisites: None


        Class Structure:
        My class will be conducted on-campus, in a traditional classroom setting. All exams will be in the form of on-Campus traditional exams.


        A physical or digital copy of the textbook , MATH 100: Mathematical Ideas, 15th Ed., by Miller, is required. Homework assignments will be in the form of textbook problems, and lecutre notes will be collected for credit. Homework assignments will generally be due on Tuesdays and Thursdays.


        Required Materials:

        Reliable Internet Connection

        Writing Utensils

        Paper (Printer or Lined) (Strongly Recommended)

        Scientific Calculator

        Desktop/Laptop/Tablet/Smartphone


        Helpful Foundational Skills:
        Equations of Lines
        Solving Linear Equations
        Properties of Quadratic Equations


      • Math 180 + Math 18A Fall 2024

        Online Class Search:
        ** This class will display a Building/Room number and a Meeting Time in the online class search, to indicate an in-person, on-campus class.


        Prerequisites: Math 135 and Math 150, or Math 160, or Appropriate Placement


        Class Structure:
        This is a corequisite class, which means there is an extra 2 unit portion designed to give extra support in various aspects of the class. We will be using Canvas courses for both Math 180 and Math 18A.
        My class will be conducted on-campus, in a traditional classroom setting. All exams will be in the form of on-Campus traditional exams.


        A physical or digital copy of the textbook , MATH 180/181: Calculus, Early Transcendentals, 8th Ed., by Stewart, is required. Homework assignments will be in the form of textbook problems and daily quizzes, and will generally be due on Mondays and Wednesdays.
