How to Apply for MESA

Important

Fall 2024 Semester Update: Applications will close on Tuesday, September 10th, 2024, at 9pm PST due to member capacity limits. You must review the student eligibility requirements before submitting an application. For students who meet all eligbility requirements, applications are reviewed and students are accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis. 

MESA is currently accepting student applications from new Mt. SAC students and current Mt. SAC students who have at least one full year of courses left to complete at Mt. SAC at the time of application.

    • 1 Check Eligibility & Requirements
      Student Eligibility: 
      • Have a 2.4 or higher overall GPA (not applicable to new Mt. SAC students).
      • Enrolled in at least 6 units at Mt. SAC.
      • Plan to transfer to a four-year institution (must not already hold a bachelor's degree).
      • Be a first-generation college student (i.e. your parents do not have bachelor's degrees).
      • Receive financial aid (e.g. you receive CA Promise grant, Cal grant, Federal Work Study, Cal Fresh or other financial aid, or you are an EOPS/CARE/CalWorks participant, or you are a TRIO participant, or you or your guardian is a TANF/welfare recipient.)
      • Be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or AB 540/DACA student. Unfortunately,  International/F1 Visa students are not eligible.

      Student Requirements:
      Each semester:
      • Enroll in at least 6 units each semester at Mt. SAC, including at least one science and engineering course each semester.
      • Attend one counseling session with a MESA counselor to create or update your student educational plan.
      • Participate in any two (2) of the following MESA events: workshop, guest speaker panel, fieldtrip, conference, social event, etc.
      • Participate in any two (2) of the following academic MESA events: tutoring session, study group session, or math support workshop session, etc.
      • Maintain a minimum 2.4 GPA.
      Each year:
      • Attend the MESA Orientation (new students) or MESA Kickoff (returning students).
      • Apply for at least one STEM internship, research, or scholarship opportunity.
      • Meet with the MESA Director for a check-in. 
    • 2 Submit an Application

    • 3 Meet with the Director

      If you meet eligibility requirements, you will be contacted via email to schedule an introductory meeting with the MESA Director.
