Redinger Family Earth and Space Science Research Award (Mt. SAC):
The Earth and Space Science Research Grant (ESSRG) was established to provide Mt. San Antonio College students the opportunity to gain experience in authentic and original scientific research, and to contribute to increasing knowledge within the Earth and Space Sciences. In collaboration with an Earth Science and Astronomy faculty member (serving as a mentor) of the supporting departments, the grant awardee will use the $1800 funds to investigate a geo- or space-science-based research problem and disseminate the results in a public forum (additional $400 for conference travel ).Deadline to apply: March 8, 2024.

The Wrigley Institute Scientific Diving Discovery ProgramThis is a month-long program at the USC Wrigley Marine Science Center on Catalina Island. The program is dedicated to increasing diversity, equity, and inclusion in the field of Scientific Diving. ACCESS PALEO
The Advancing Community College Education and Student Success in Paleontology Project, or ACCESS, was created to build collaborations with local community colleges to increase access to STEM fields like geoscience and paleontology for students from historically excluded and underrepresented groups and communities.
During this 7-week program, interns will be introduced to the fields of paleontology, geosciences, museum science, and science communication. Interns will work with museum staff and mentors to learn skills in fossil preparation, collections management, and curation. Participation in the program is a part-time commitment (21 hours/week, Tuesday – Thursday) for a consecutive seven-week period from June 25 through August 8, 2024. Stipends will be provided for interns and mentors at the start of the program. Preference will be given to students who have not yet had extensive internship experiences prior to applying. Students must:
- Be currently enrolled at a 2-year institution (community college).
- Have completed at least one semester or two quarters by June 2024.
- Reside or attend college in Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino, or Riverside counties.
- Be a United States citizen or legally authorized to work, study, or reside in the United States.

Opportunity to participate in a scientific research cruise with students, faculty, and scientists and conduct geology and oceanography research on board the ship. Cruises leave from various prts on the EAst and West coast of the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii, during June and July. See application for details. U.S. Bureau of Land ManagementThe Bureau of Land Management has a variety of internship programs for high school and college students. Some of them provide a pathway to get hired into federal positions with the US Department of the Interior (Bureau of Land Management, National Park Service, US Fish and Wildlife Service, and others. A key focus of their programs is to support full participation of individuals traditionally underserved in federal and STEM career fields, who might identify as racially and/or ethnically diverse, LGBTQIA+, persons with disabilities, veterans of the U.S. armed forces, underrepresented genders, and individuals who experience intersectionality with one or more of these identities." ASSURE Summer Research Program
Advancing Space Science through Undergraduate Research Experience (ASSURE) is an NSF-funded REU program run by the Space Sciences Laboratory (SSL) at the University of California, Berkeley, a nationally-renowned lab created to expand scientific knowledge of Earth’s space environment, our Solar System, and the wider cosmos. In 2024, SSL is also collaborating with Consequences of Fields and Flows in the Interior and Exterior of the Sun (COFFIES), investigating some of the most difficult mysteries hidden in the deep interior of our Sun. This program is dedicated to providing opportunities for enthusiastic and dedicated first-generation college students, under-represented minorities, community college students, and any students for whom a research opportunity may be a challenge. The Student Independent Research Intern, or SIRI, program offers academic-term internships at JPL for students enrolled in an independent study course at participating area community colleges. Students complete designated projects outlined by their mentors, gaining educational experience in their fields of study while also contributing to NASA and JPL missions and science.
