Communication Studies Department
We are dedicated to helping students develop and improve their understanding of human communication through theoretical and practical exploration of this diverse field. Communication courses can be used to satisfy many general education and transfer requirements. Students can complete their Mt. SAC Associates Degree with an emphasis in Communication.
Forensics Team
The Mt. SAC Department of Communication is home to our thirteen-time national championship Forensics Team. Forensics students compete in speech and debate competitions across the US and internationally against other two-year colleges as well as four-year colleges and universities. For information about joining the Mt. SAC Forensics Team, email forensics@mtsac.edu.
Speech & Sign
Success Center
Students enrolled in a communication course at Mt. SAC can receive learning support through our Speech & Sign Success Center (SSSC) located on the ground floor of building 26B. Video recording suites are available and tutors are also available for both drop-in and scheduled appointments for assistance.
Communication
Department Events
The Communication Department hosts a variety of events for students outside of the classroom. From speech contests, debate showcases, collaborations with the Sign Language department, and a graduation ceremony expressly for Communication majors, learn more about these exciting opportunities.
A 2010 survey of employers by the National Association of Colleges and Employers ranked COMMUNICATION SKILLS as the #1 attribute they seek in potential employees. Communication competency is critical to achieving excellence. Even presidential
candidates and top CEOs routinely participate in training to improve their communication
ability. Students in any field of study will benefit from taking courses in this
field and/or participating in departmental activities and organizations.
