The college's Introduction to Computer Information Technology certificate is only 9 units (3 courses). It is designed to prepare students for careers that require the understanding and use of computer technology. The certificate offers a balanced set of classes that enables students to become proficient with business software such as Word, Excel and Access; implement security techniques to protect computer systems from malware, maintain a computer using utility programs, and create web sites. The field of computer information systems is highly lucrative with projected job growth. According to U.S. Department of Labor data, the average salary of people who eventually specialize in computer systems technology is between $47,700 and $80,000 a year and computer networking technology is between $54,700 and $93,700.
