The Department of Art History houses all AHIS, HUMA, and LATN courses.
     All AHIS courses fulfill the General Education category Area C-3 "Arts."
     HUMA and LATN courses fulfill the General Education category Area C-3 "Humanities."

Student Learning Outcomes for Art History

  • Elements and styles. Students will be able to identify formal elements and differentiate styles among cultures over time.
  • General Education Outcome: Area C. Students completing an assignment in Humanities Area C will be able to identify the influence of culture on human expression.
  • role of art. Students will be able to identify through analysis the role of visual art and culture (religious, political, economic, social, educational, etc.) in art and and cultures.

Student Learning Outcomes for Humanities

  • Cultural Analysis. Student completing an assignment will be able to identify the influence of culture on human expression.
  • Cultural Context. Students will be able to analyze and interpret art and cultural as expressions of ethnicity, identity, gender, and political power.
  • Formal Analysis of Artistic Media. Students will be able to identify and analyze the formal elements and composition of visual arts, architecture, music, literature, and/or other humanistic expression
  • Socio-Political and Natural Environment. Students will be able to relate art and culture to the socio-political and natural environment.

Student Learning Outcomes for Latin

Latin 1

  • Compound Sentence. Students will be able to translate a compound sentence in the original Latin into idiomatic English.
  • Parsing. Students will be able to identify and parse nouns and adjectives of the first and second declensions.
  • Simple Sentence. Students will be able to translate a simple sentence in the original Latin into idiomatic English.

 Latin 2

  • Clauses. Students will be able to identify and correctly translate Latin clauses containing "indirect statement" into idiomatic English.
  • Compound Sentence. Students will be able to translate a compound English sentence into a grammatically correct English sentence.
  • Parsing. Students will be able to identify and parse nouns and adjectives of the third and fourth declensions.
  • Simple Sentence. Students will be able to translate a simple English sentence into a grammatically correct Latin sentence.
