This Fall there are many exciting, sustainably focused events happening around campus. There are so many opportunities to get involved. Take a look and take action!

Mt. SAC Sustainability Video and Website
 
Professors, please share this Mt.SAC Sustainability Video with your students to introduce them to Sustainability at Mt. SAC. This short video will provide students with an overview of what sustainability is, and how they may pursue sustainability in their own academic and professional careers.
 
The Mt.SAC Sustainability website is also a great place to get information on all things sustainability at Mt.SAC.

Mt. SAC Thrive Market

Thrifting is the ultimate way to shop sustainably! Mt. SAC Basic Needs will be hosting the Thrift and Thrive Market for all students, staff and faculty.  Bring a reusable bag to carry out items.  Participants can choose up to 10 items.  Participants do not need to donate in order to participate.

Climate Action Palooza at West LA College

October 24 - 26, 2023
West LA College
 
Join this 3-day Climate Action Palooza that will engage students, faculty, staff, external partners, and the community at large in various aspects of climate action, education, and workforce development in the green and blue sectors. Events will include talks and panels with climate leaders and experts, exhibits, climate action-inspired art shows, workshops, hands-on activities, and displays by industry partners. Attendees can register for one, two, or three days. All events are free and open to the public. To register for the conference, see the event website.

Celebrating the 78th Birthday of the United Nations

October 26, 2023, 6 pm – 8 pm

Mt. SAC Greenzone Certification

Mt. SAC is the first Greenzone Certified Community College in the nation!  Mt. SAC’s Grounds crew now uses zero-emission, low-noise electric equipment, and people-powered tools to keep our campus beautiful and our air clean.  Join us as we celebrate this great achievement by our Grounds Department. Sustainability Spotlight

Student CenterMt. SAC wins the Board of Governors’ Excellence in Sustainability and Energy Innovative Project Award for the new Student Center
 
The California Community College Board of Governors Energy & Sustainability Program has awarded Mt. SAC with an ‘Excellence in Energy & Sustainability Innovative Project Award’ for the Student Center.  This award recognizes a district or campus that implemented a project in the past year that depicts exemplary use and implementation of innovative technologies and progressive practices. The award recognizes innovation in energy efficiency, clean energy, or sustainability projects that result in energy savings and have the potential to have widespread adoption.

Mt. SAC Climate Action Plan (CAP) 2023

Mt. SAC’s Climate Action Planning will provide an update to Mt.SAC’s first CAP published in 2018. The updated CAP will provide an overview of the college’s current carbon footprint, present strategies for reducing emissions, summarize our accomplishments to date, and set new goals for CAP 2023. Areas of focus include Energy, Transportation, Waste, Water, Curriculum, Institutionalization, Professional Development, and Community Outreach.
