A Message From the President - Please Read
March 13, 2020 - 11:54 AM
As college president, I take very seriously my role in maintaining the safety of all Mounties. As a resident of Walnut, the threat of the virus is felt personally by me and my family.
I know that many of you are extremely concerned about the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) and its impact here as more cases are confirmed in our area. Although no individuals (students or employees) at Mt. San Antonio College have tested positive for the virus, I share your concerns and want to assure you that the college is actively addressing this rapidly evolving situation. We hear you and acknowledge your need for as much information about what we are doing, and we will continue to communicate changes in normal operations to you. Stay up-to-date here: https://www.mtsac.edu/health/.
We are routinely monitoring public health sites and depend on recommendations from those agencies on how to best maintain instruction while minimizing the risk for students, faculty and staff.
Part of the ongoing discussion is a move away from face-to-face classes as a way of minimizing social contact. To prepare our faculty for the transition, all classes scheduled for Wednesday March 18 and Thursday, March 19 will be suspended to allow for an inservice for faculty training for remote instruction. A Health Alert with additional details will be sent out as soon as possible. Our faculty are committed to their students and will be working with them to prepare for this transition. I ask that you routinely check your Mt. SAC email and be sure you are communicating with your professors.
During this time, it can be difficult not to react with fear or panic, or feel overwhelmed with media reports. However, it is important that you follow the directions in the Health Alerts to reduce the risk of your individual exposure to the virus. The Student Health Center will remain open for students who need medical care and emotional support. Call to make an appointment at 909-274-4400 if care is needed.
