ABI Program Procedures

How do I start the process?

  • Schedule a 1-hour intake appointment with Heather Ponce or Valentina Gaete, Speech Pathologists. 
    • Appointments can be scheduled by emailing at hponce@mtsac.edu or calling 909-274-6332 (voicemail).
    • Be sure to request for an ABI Program New Student Intake appointment in your message and supply your name, date of birth, and phone number.
    • Bring your medical verification to your appointment if you do not upload it with your application to ACCESS, ACCESS application.
How to begin the ABI Program:
  • Make an ABIP intake appointment by 909-274-6332 (Heather's voicemail) or email at hponce@mtsac.edu or self-book in your student portal under Navigate.
  • Meet with the Speech Pathologist in a in-person appointment on campus, virtual appointment either on Zoom or by phone.
  • The Speech Pathologist will confirm by email or phone.
  • Provide your verification by scanning and sending via email or to ACCESS in their "Apply for ACCESS services" in the student portal.

ABI Program Guidelines:

  1. Speech Pathologists are available by email during normal business hours of the program Monday-Thursday 9-3 PM. You should receive a response within 2 business days
  2. The ABI program is part of ACCESS Department and you must complete a non-credit form through Community Education and attain a student ID number
  3. Apply to ACCESS in the Mt. SAC student portal
  4. Identify an academic, vocational, or avocational goal
  5. Follow the Standards of Conduct
  6. We follow FERPA; which includes that the ABIP does not provide a directory of fellow students within the ABI Program
  7. The ABI Program is open entry and exit, so you can begin mid-semester (Fall and Spring) or in the intersessions (Winter and Summer)
  8. We first begin with a 6-week trial to see if the program is a right fit for your needs
  9. The ABI Program runs in one academic year. Once you've completed the program you will be provided recommendations for classes, work, or volunteer opportunities
